The Creative PCMCIA is a CD-ROM interface. A CD-ROM is a compact disk which is pre-pressed. It is a read-only memory. This means that the data from the CD-ROM is viewable, but it is not writable by any computer. It is designed to hold binary data in any form. It was originally developed by the companies Sony and Philips. They are usually for the distribution of computer software like games and applications. However, any binary data can be stored as long as the discs limit is not exceeded. Some discs can hold various kinds (audio, computer data). CD-ROM stands for Compact Disc, Read Only Media. Its original design was for playback and storage of music. However, the CD-ROM has branched out to different kinds of media, as it is an easy way to store data. It differs from audio CDs is not very significant. The storage and retrieval of data in both CD tipes are very similar, and both are made from polycarbonate plastic. It has a thin layer of aluminum. This makes for the reflective underside of the disk. They are usually 120 mm in diameter. The standard file system for CD ROMs is the ISO 9660. The only note-worthy difference of the CD-ROM from music audio CDs is the speed. It can transfer data at rates of 150 kilobytes per second. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for Windows and Creative PCMCIA CD-ROM Interface errors before installing any driver updates.
